I have tears in my eyes. I played with Al from the mid 80's - early 90's. I have never worked with a better showman, and I have been around the block a few times. I've been looking to find Al for years. I have many tears to cry right now, because I didn't know before now that Al was gone. Some of my fondest musical memories are with Al.
Rest in peace, Al You were one of a kind, and I learned so much from you. Thank you so much for some of my fondest memories, my friend....
I am so sorry...

I had the pleasure of mixing Al's live shows between September of 1984 and January of 1986. Al was such a versatile and dynamic performer he never left an audience sitting in their seats at shows end. I have many fond memories which I can not share here, but all I can say is "a large time was had by all." I especially miss the card games we had on the bus. Rest in peace big brown, you've earned it.

As an old radio man I always enjoyed playing Big Al's music especially "Darlene" and since my last name is Jones, "Mr Jones" was my favorite Big Al recording...What a great song. Rest in peace Mr Downing i know your family and friends miss you

i didn't know Big Al passed away, i'm so sorry. He was a great talent, i loved all his music but MR. JONES really touched my heart. It took me so many years to find that song, i never got to see him in concert, but i always wish i could have. A true fan always, Alberta Vanwinkle

Big Al was one singer who touched me so that I still sing his songs today. My kids ask. Who sang that? I tell them the ONE AND ONLY Big Al Downing Wish I could thank him for his works. Lynn Davis
