A picture of "BIG AL DOWNING" graces my living room. It is signed "To Bob, a Pal", dated 06Jun1995. Friend of mine, Opal Nester, acquired it for me from Fan Fare after telling Big Al of a super fan in California. I am saddened every day at the untimely loss of Big Al. I look at video's and listen to his music and I just see and hear a super gentle GIANT of a man blessed with so much talent.

I was turned on to Big Al Downing by local DJ Barry Wilson. I would hear all play at venues around Worcester and loved his music and his style. I would occassionally see him out, and he always took the time to speak with me. He was such a presence and a great person to be around. I found out that my wife was somehow related to him and met him at a family function. I was in awe and pestered him with questions. Always the good sport, Big Al graciously answered all of them. I was saddened when I heard of his passing, and miss him. He is truly one of a kind.

I am 35yrs old...before just now finding it on iTunes, the last time I heard Mr. Jones, I was 7yrs old. I can remember being hunched over on the floor in front of the stero console with my ear pressed to the cloth covered speaker. To a 7yr old, this was the sadest song I'd ever heard. To this day, it has served as a lesson to me. Thank you Big Al - wherever you are!

Big Al thanks for giving me my start in showbusiness I will always be thankful to you. I know you are not with us in person any longer but I also know you are with us in SPIRIT!
